Uttar Pradesh raises 2017-18 sugar output estimate to 10.8 MMT.

Uttar Pradesh has raised the state’s sugar output estimate for 2017-18 (Oct-Sep) to 10.8 mln tn from 10.3 mln tn pegged earlier. The upward revision comes on the back of improvement in cane yields and higher sugar recovery from cane in the state. Last year, the state had produced 8.8 mln tn sugar and had pipped Maharashtra to emerge as the largest sugar-producing state of the country. In the ongoing season, the state has so far produced 8.4 MMT of sugar. Recently, Indian Sugar Mills Association, too, scaled up its forecast for production of the sweetener in the state during the ongoing season to 10.5 mln tn.
