Telangana government will start procurement of maize for 2017-18 (Oct-Sep) at the Nizamabad market from 22 Sep. The state will purchase the coarse grain from farmers at a minimum support price of 1,425 rupees per 100 kg, the official said. We usually start procuring maize from Oct 1 but this year arrivals to market have already started so we are starting the procurement earlier. Although the government is planning to open procurement centres from Sep 22, traders say they might not be able to make purchases in the next few days due to unavailability of good quality crop.
