According to Department of Agriculture & Farmers Welfare, the area under Rabi rice is decreased by 8.0 percent to 841 thousand hectares as against 915 thousand hectares sowed during the same period last year.
Tamil Nadu stands out among the Indian states as the one that contributes the most to the sowing of rice, with 748 thousand hectares. Comparing this to the 827 thousand hectares of sowing over the same period last year, there has been an loss of 9.6%.
Kerala, with its 55 thousand hectares of sown land, comes in second among the states. However, when compared to the 22 thousand hectares over the same period last year, this statistic shows a gain of 150%.
