Pulses sowing in 2017-18 up 67% at 77,000 ha so far.

Sowing of pulses in the country in 2017-18 was up 67.4% on year at 77,000 ha. Sowing of kharif pulses usually gains pace with the onset of monsoon in June, but it commences earlier in some irrigated areas. Kharif pulses sowing has commenced in Karnataka, Tamil Nadu, Assam, Haryana, and Odisha. Among pulses, urad has been sown across 26,000 ha so far in this kharif season as compared to 23,000 ha in the corresponding period last year. Moong has been planted across 10,000 ha as against 7,000 ha, while other pulses have been sown across 37,000 ha, up 164% on year.
