Olam Agro India Private Ltd has won the tender released by the Bangladesh government to export non-basmati rice. The company will export 50,000 tn parboiled rice from India at a price of $419.5 a tn. This was the fifth tender released by Bangladesh government since May and India has already exported 100,000 tn rice through Sukhbir India Agro Energy Ltd and Olam Agro India Ltd. The other two tenders went to Agrocorp International Pte Ltd and Phoenix Commodities Pvt Ltd and these companies shipped the grain from Vietnam and Thailand, respectively. Bangladesh may import nearly 1.2 mln tn rice in 2017-18 (May-April) as the country’s production has fallen due to floods, crop diseases, and adverse growing conditions.
