Prices of maize rose today in the wholesale markets of Devanagere, Karnataka, because of improved demand ahead of festival season. Prices will be mostly on the higher levels in October, till Diwali ends. The benchmark market of Nizamabad, Telangana, remained closed ahead of Dussehra. Maize prices have been rising in Nizamabad due to firm demand as the quality of crop is improving now. Currently, procurement of maize is underway only in Nizamabad and would start in other districts in October.
