Maharashtra ups PDS sugar price under Antyodaya plan to 20 rupees/kg.

Maharashtra govt has raised the price of sugar to be sold through the PDS under Antyodaya Anna Yojana to 20 rupees a kg from 15 rupees. State has also doubled the quantity to be provided to cardholders under the scheme to 1 kg. The state sells around 2,500 tn of sugar under welfare schemes, which is subsidised by Centre to the extent of 18.50 rupees a kg compared with current market price of around 40 rupees. However, since the Centre has withdrawn subsidies on other welfare schemes, the state has not yet decided whether to continue the sale of subsidised sugar to those below the poverty line and through welfare schemes, and the rate at which it would be sold.
