The sowing of kharif crops has begun across the country, with farmers having planted crops across 6.05 million ha. The acreage is up 4.5% from 5.79 million ha year ago, and is also higher than the normal area of 5.44 million ha for the period. The rise in acreage can be attributed to good pre-monsoon showers across major growing regions of the country.
