Kharif Pulses Sowing
As per recent release (as on 08th Sep 2023), the Department of Agriculture and Farmers Welfare states that Kharif pulses sowing is down by 8.6% to 119.9 lakh hectares from 131.2 lakh hectares at the same corresponding period during previous year.
Commodity-wise, Tur/Arhar sowing is at 42.9 lakh hectares, down by 5.8% from 45.6 lakh hectares at same time last year. In Karnataka and Maharashtra Tur sowing is down 4% and 4.2% respectively on year over year basis, which together contributed to 50 to 60 percent of India’s total tur production. In Karnataka, farmers covered 13.5 lakh ha as compared to 14.1 lakh ha. In Maharashtra, tur sowing is at 11.1 lakh ha. as against 11.6 lakh ha during the previous year at same time.
Urad and Moong sowing also down by 13.9% and 7.6% respectively, compared to the same period last year. Urad sowing is at 31.9 lakh hectares as against 37.1 lakh hectares. Moong sowing is at 31.1 lakh hectares as compared to 33.6 lakh hectares during previous year at same time.
