The majority of the procurement occurs in the first half of the year, which causes the stock of rice to steadily increase. But because rice is a Kharif crop, which is typically grown in June or July in most of the nation, the supply decreases in the second half. The lowest stock since 2020 was observed in 2023. The stock was substantially lower in January 2023 at 123.35 MLT than it was in 2022 at 221.54 LMT. Since 2015, this is the lowest January stock price ever. The stock was significantly lower than that in 2022 in the majority of the other months for which data was available as of 2023, and was more or less at 2016–2017 levels.
