India traders say over 30,000 tn maize sold to southeast Asia this season.

India has exported 30,000-40,000 tn maize to southeast Asian countries in the last few months and may ship nearly 100,000 tn of the coarse grain to Bangladesh in the coming days. India has been exporting maize to Malaysia and Vietnam in containers. Deals have been made at around $225-$230 per tn. Traders have signed several deals to export maize to Malaysia in May, said another source associated with an export firm. Southeast Asian countries are net importers of maize and usually purchase the grain from the US and Brazil. This year, these countries are buying the grain from India as prices are more attractive. India may export up to 100,000 tn maize to Bangladesh in the coming days if prices remain competitive.
