India sells 0.1 MMT rice to Bangladesh via government tenders.

India has exported 0.1 MMT of non-basmati rice to Bangladesh through government tenders. So far Bangladesh government has released four tenders of 50,000 tn each, of which two were won by Sukhbir India Agro Energy Ltd and Olam Agro India Ltd and these companies supplied rice from India. The other two tenders went to Agrocorp International Pte Ltd and Phoenix Commodities Pvt Ltd and these companies shipped the grain from Vietnam and Thailand respectively. The average price of the tenders remained around $430 a tn. Bangladesh government has also signed a deal with Vietnam for import of 250,000 tn rice. Bangladesh government had earlier approached the Indian government for import of 500,000 tn parboiled rice but the deal could not materialise due to insufficient stocks. They contacted us nearly 2 months back asking for 5.0 lakh tn of parboiled rice our availability was not sufficient so we offered raw rice but they have not gotten back to us so far. Bangladesh may import nearly 1.2 mln tn rice in 2017-18 (May-April) as the country’s production has fallen due to floods, diseases and adverse growing conditions.
