IMD’s Agrimet has advised farmers in Tamil Nadu to spray insecticides on the rice crop to control the spread of thrips attack. Thrips have been spotted in some key rice growing areas as the weather is congenial for the insects. It mostly feeds on plants by puncturing and sucking up the sap of the leaves, which stunts growth of the plant and lowers the yield.
