ICRA raised its estimate for India’s sugar output in 2017-18 (Oct-Sep) to 29.5 mln tn from around 27.0 mln tn pegged earlier. This has been driven principally by higher-than-expected sugar production in Maharashtra, Uttar Pradesh and Karnataka. Indian Sugar Mills Association had also scaled up its estimate for production in the ongoing season to 29.5 mln tn from 26.1 mln tn forecast in January. The government, however, has pegged sugar output around 27.2 MMT.
