Govt to allocate 60,975 free minikits of pulses seed for 2017-18.

Govt would distribute 60,975 minikits of pulses seeds to be grown in 2017-18 (Jul-Jun) free of cost to farmers. Minikits are meant for popularisation of newly-released or hybrid seed varieties not older than 10 years, through central seed agencies. Each minikit would carry treated seed, bio-fertiliser packets, leaflets carrying information about modern farm practices, and characteristics of the seed variety in the local language of the growers. Govt would distribute 13,905 minikits of tur, urad, and moong seeds in the kharif season, and 39,410 minikits of chana and masoor seeds in the rabi season. In the summer season, 7,660 minikits of urad and moong seeds would be allocated. Seed agencies have to ensure timely submission of progress reports to the farm ministry and the Directorate of Pulses Development regarding the supply of seed minikits,
