Govt says talking to EU on new cap for fungicide level in basmati.

Government is in talks with the European Union on the latter’s stringent norms for tolerance level for Tricyclazole fungicide in rice that could hit India’s basmati exports. According to new norms, which will be effective from 2018, EU won’t allow imports of rice having more than 0.01 parts per mln Tricyclazole. The current maximum limit for Tricyclazole is 1 part per mln. India exports around 350,000 tn of basmati rice to EU, and changes in tolerance limit for Tricyclazole may hit the shipments. Many countries in the EU also use Tricyclazole and the issue will be resolved soon.
