Govt mandates mills to export 2 mln tn sugar this year ending Sep.

Jittery about surplus sugar output this season, the government has mandated mills across the country to export total 2 mln tn sugar till September under the Minimum Indicative Export Quantity scheme. Under the scheme, it is mandatory for mills to export the fixed quota, failing which the factories shall be deemed to have violated the directives of the government. The export quota has been fixed taking into account average production of mills achieved in the last two years and up to February of this year. Mills can export their quota themselves or get it exported by other mills on mutually agreeable conditions.
