Rice from India rose 12.1% on year to $386 per tn in Jan-Apr. Prices of the similar rice from India’s competitors Thailand and Vietnam increased 15.1% and 21.2%, respectively, during Jan-Apr. During Jan-Apr, average export price of 25% broken Thailand rice was $421 per tn and the same variety from Vietnam was at $397 per tn. Global prices of non-basmati rice have increased due to higher demand from Malaysia and Indonesia and lower availability in Thailand.
