Mills in Brazil’s Centre-South region produced 36.06 mln tn sugar during 2017-18 (Apr-Mar), up 1.2% from 35.63 mln tn a year ago, the country’s sugarcane industry association, known by its Portuguese acronym UNICA. Centre-South Brazil accounts for over 90% of the country’s total sugar production. In 2017-18, mills crushed 596.31 mln tn cane, down from 607.14 mln tn a year ago. The Centre-South region has also produced 26.09 bln ltr of ethanol during this season, up from 25.65 bln ltr a year ago.
