Chana prices remained stable due to strong demand and plentiful supplies in key regions. Following an expected record harvest in the producing region, the Gujarat government announced on Wednesday that it will approach the Centre to enhance its procurement of chana from the state.
During the 2022 rabi season, the State government’s second advance estimates for 2021-22 estimated chana output at roughly 24.90 lakh tonnes. According to the final advance estimates for 2020-21, this was around 14.37 lakh tonnes.
The enhanced yield and large increase in chana acreage are to blame for the sharp increase in output. In the current season, the area under chana increased to 11.32 lakh hectares, up from 8.16 lakh hectares the previous season. The yield, as per the State estimates, is expected to be around 2.49 tonnes per hectare, up from 1.761 tonnes in the previous season.
