The nation is expected to produce more than 28.86 million tons of wheat this season, which will support the government’s efforts to promote sustainable agricultural growth and economic development. According to Imtiaz Ahmad Gopang, Food Security Commissioner in the Ministry of National Food Security and Research, wheat cultivation is heavily dependent on irrigation water, so the abundant water supply as reported by IRSA along with record planting areas indicated the potential for another strong harvest during the crop season 2024–25. But, he told APP on Wednesday, the real output results would rely on things like growth conditions and the availability of necessary supplies, especially fertilizers.Furthermore, he said that the final product will be greatly impacted by the weather patterns in March and April, which are critical for the growth and maturity of the grains. He stated that the province crop reporting services predicted that wheat output in Sindh will be 3.3 million metric tons and in Punjab Province would be 23.50 million metric tons. In the meanwhile, it was anticipated that the output for the provinces of Balochistan and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa would be 21.274 million metric tons and 1.474 million metric tons, respectively.According to Imtiaz Ahmad, the country’s wheat planting during the current season (Rabi 2023–24) grew by 7.5% as compared to the crop sowing during the same period previous year because of the government’s given incentives. He added that the wheat crop has been sown across more than 23.69 million acres of land in various crop-growing regions during the current season to meet local staple food requirements and maintain strategic reserves throughout the year. During the period under review, wheat sowing had been completed over 23.69 million acres as opposed to the set targets of 22.22 million acres.
